The Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) will host a solo exhibit featuring the work of artist Jenny Green, entitled Love the Mother. The show will run May 1-30 at the SMAC Art Center, 7 Downing Street, in historic Hollister, MO.
Jenny Green is a full-time artist working from her printmaking studio at New Moon Studio Space in Springfield, MO. Her current work focuses on screen-printing her own hand drawn designs in a multiplicity of color palettes. Her exhibit at SMAC will feature serigraphic works and cyanotypes, all depicting the female form. The exhibit is a celebration of womanhood in her many forms and is perfectly timed to coincide with Mother's Day, Earth Day, and the season of renewal.
“This show is lively and energetic. It showcases the collective power of the female,” says Green of her exhibit. The artworks feature the female form in multiples, yet working as a single unit. “We are more powerful as a pair, a group, or a team,” explains Green. “These pieces, for me, represent our shared power and humanity.”
Vibrant color, geometric design, and repeated forms create a kaleidoscope of imagery that both enlivens and soothes the viewer. This exhibit contains artistic depictions of the nude human form, parental guidance is advised.
The opening reception will be on Friday evening, May 1, from 6-9 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. During the reception, Green will speak about her art and answer questions. Attendees may view the exhibit, tour the private studios, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Vintage Paris Coffee kiosk will also be on site.
Each month during their exhibits, SMAC highlights one of the many local non-profit organizations that serve the area.
